Desert Diaries: College Trip to Jaisalmer & Jodhpur

Before leaving for the Vision College educational tour scheduled from 28 January to 1 February 2026, I was filled with excitement and curiosity. I remember eagerly imagining how it would feel to see Jaisalmer’s Golden Fort rising from the Thar Desert, to stand proudly at the historic Longewala Border, and to visit the War Museum where stories of bravery come alive. I was also excited to experience desert life, sand dunes, and Rajasthani culture which we had only read about in books. Traveling with 46 students and our respected faculty members made it even more special, as I knew it would be full of learning and fun together. I was sure this journey would give me real exposure to history, patriotism, and heritage, and would create memories that I would cherish throughout my life. On 28 January 2026, 46 Student with 3 Faculty went for a trip Jaisalmer & jodhpur. With an aims to visiting new place, experiencing the local culture, learning about history and seeing real exhibits that brought our lesson to life. We arrived jaisalmer there at 8:00am. We planned to visit war museum, Golden fort, & Gadisar Lake, India- Pakistan Border, Desert.
• Jaisalmer War Museum
The Jaisalmer War Museum is a renowned military museum
in Rajasthan, dedicated to the bravery, sacrifices, and history of the Indian Armed Forces. It was established by the Indian Army’s Desert Corps and opened to the public in 2015. The museum mainly highlights the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, with special focus on the historic Battle of Longewala (1971).
• Golden Fort
Jaisalmer Fort, also called Sonar Quila (Golden Fort), is located in Rajasthan, India.
It was built in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal,a Bhati Rajput ruler. The fort rises from the Thar Desert, glowing golden because of its yellow sandstone. It is one of the largest living forts in the world. Many people still live inside the fort within its walls. The fort has 99 bastions, massive gates, and strong defenses. Jain temples inside the fort are famous for their fine carvings. The fort has great historical importance in trade and defense. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2013) and a major tourist attraction.
• Tanot Mata Mandir
Located near the India–Pakistan border in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. About 120 km from Jaisalmer city. Dedicated to Goddess Tanot Mata, an incarnation of Hinglaj Mata. Temple is situated in the Thar Desert. Famous for its miracle during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. Many enemy bombs failed to explode near the temple. Temple and area are managed by the Border Security Force (BSF). Unexploded bombs and shells are displayed inside the temple. Strong faith among Indian soldiers and devotees. Symbol of devotion, bravery, and patriotism. Important pilgrimage and tourist spot in western Rajasthan. Often visited along with Longewala War Memorial.
• India-Pakistan Border
Located in the western part of Rajasthan, along the India–Pakistan
international border. Jaisalmer shares a long desert border with Pakistan. Border passes through the Thar Desert region. Guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF). Extremely hot and dry climate with sand dunes. Strategically very important for national security. Famous border areas nearby: Tanot Mata Mandir and Longewala. Witnessed major action during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. Longewala War Memorial commemorates Indian Army bravery. Limited civilian movement; security clearance required in some areas. Represents patriotism, courage, and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. Popular with tourists interested in defence history and patriotic sites.
• Desert
Jaisalmer is located in the Thar Desert, also called the Great Indian Desert. The desert is known for vast sand dunes and dry landscapes. Climate is hot and arid, with very little rainfall. Temperatures are extremely high in summer and cold in winter night. Famous for Sam Sand Dunes and Khuri Sand Dunes. Desert safari includes camel rides and jeep safaris. Rich in Rajasthani culture, folk music, and dance. Desert camps offer traditional food and cultural programs. Home to unique desert flora and fauna. Plays an important role in tourism of Jaisalmer. Beautiful sunrise and sunset views over sand dunes. Symbol of heritage, adventure, and natural beauty of Rajasthan.
• Jodhpur : Mehrangarh Fort
Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest and most magnificent forts in India,
located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. It was built in 1459 AD by Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur. The fort stands on a steep rocky hill, about 410 feet above the city, making it a strong defensive structure. Mehrangarh Fort was the seat of power of the Marwar kingdom. It witnessed many battles and played a key role in protecting the region. The cannon marks near the gates still remind visitors of historic wars.
Conclusion
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the college for organizing such a wonderful and memorable trip to Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. The entire journey was well-planned and allowing us to explore the rich cultural heritage, historical monuments, and traditions of Rajasthan. The visit to Jaisalmer Fort, desert safari, and Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur was truly insightful and enjoyable. The accommodation, transportation, and food arrangements were comfortable and well-managed. The teachers and coordinators ensured our safety and maintained proper discipline throughout the trip. The journey was comfortable and enjoyable, making the tour truly memorable. The tour guide was cooperative and knowledgeable, which helped us understand the historical and cultural importance of each place. Safety and time management were also well maintained throughout the journey. I truly appreciate the efforts of management and staff in making this trip successful.
